KRAUSS MAFFEI
Healthy growth rates in 2000 / Exports slightly down / New series “Eltec” machines
In 2000, Krauss-Maffei Kunststofftechnik GmbH (D-80997 Munich; www.krauss-maffei.de) with its three business divisions Injection Moulding Technology, Extruders and Extrusion Line Engineering as well as Machinery for processing PU and other reactive materials boosted its consolidated turnover by 11% to EUR 506m. The company´s export figures experienced a slight slump from 73% to 69% in relation to incoming orders. According to Wilhelm Schröder, chairperson of the managerial board, the economic boom in 2000 had a clearly positive effect on the company´s turnover figures. The main causes for the growth in turnover were the increase in demand in the domestic market and Europe. The business volume in the Asian markets remained unchanged. However, dealings in North, Middle and South America were on the decline.

The Injection Moulding Technology division, which contributes approximately 75% to the company´s overall turnover, benefited from the automotive industry´s high production rates as well as from the positive developments in the markets for domestic appliances, medical engineering and packaging materials. The production of injection moulding machines was increased to 1,847 (1999: 1,505). However, this development is also the result of the trend for smaller machine models.

At “K 2001” Krauss-Maffei will be launching a series of electrically driven injection moulding machines. The “Eltec” series is equipped with the approved two-platen clamping system of the C series and will be available with clamping forces of 500, 800, 1,100 and 1,500 kN.

Despite the generally negative predictions for the current year concerning the North American market for plastics machinery – see Plasteurope.com 14, 2001 – Krauss-Maffei expects “incoming orders and turnover figures to perform slightly worse than in 2000” in 2001. However, Schröder places some emphasis on the order backlog from 2000 and compensation measures such as working off accumulated overtime and cutting back on free-lance and part-time work which may help to defuse potential demand fluctuations.
