Compounder Kompuestos (Palau-Solità i Plegamans / Spain; www.kompuestos.com) has launched three bioplastics that are completely biodegradable under natural freshwater conditions. The three products in its “Okean” bioplastics range are made of maize, potato and other renewable sources.

Certification agency TÜV Austria (Vienna / Austria; www.tuv.at) has awarded the three products with the “OK biodegradable Water" label, which follows the European standard UNE EN 13432. The certification also recognises their biodegradability in 56 days in freshwater under natural conditions and with a temperature between 20°C and 25°C. The water-soluble resins can be processed in standard equipment, offering an alternative to traditional plastics.
