UK packaging producer to close German shop / Move follows strike, wage hikes at plant
Packaging maker Klöckner Pentaplast (KP, London; www.kpfilms.com) has announced plans to close its German facility in Beeskow, 80 km south-east of Berlin in Brandenburg before the end of 2023.
The site is home to subsidiary Linpac Packaging Rigid, which produces PET and EPP trays and flexible packaging for the food and retail sectors. Some 60 employees are to be affected by the shutdown, a KP spokesperson told Plasteurope.com.

According to local media reports, two years ago Linpac employees succeeded in securing higher wages following strike action. Even then, the shortage of skilled workers and trainees was said to have created problems for the region, and the arrival of Tesla in the area made the situation worse.
Klöckner Pentaplast, which acquired Linpac in 2017, has 19 production sites in Europe, eight in North and South America, and four in the Asia/Pacific region. In Germany, company operations are located – apart from Beeskow – in Gendorf, Ritterhude, Montabaur, the headquarters until 2018.
