KLÖCKNER PENTAPLAST
Acquisition of Portugal´s Neoplastica / Now an all-in supplier with food contact film
Klöckner Pentaplast GmbH & Co KG (D-56401 Montabaur; www.kpfilms.com), leading global supplier of rigid films, acquired Neoplastica Holding SGPS s.a. (P-4825- 309 Santo Tirso; www.neoplastica.com) on 31 October 2002. The Portuguese group produces 50,000 t/y of PET and PS- based multilayer film at four facilities, in Portugal, Spain (two) and The Netherlands, achieving sales of some EUR 80m. The acquisition will push Klöckner Pentaplast, with its 3,400 employees at 22 production sites, “clearly above” the EUR 1 bn sales mark. The group has film-producing capacity in excess of 400,000 t/y for PVC and PET film.
According to the company, the acquisition will supplement Pentaplast´s own rigid film range, particularly in food-contact film. The dovetailed product ranges make the group into an “exceedingly competent”, all-in supplier of rigid film. Regional service and customer proximity will be enhanced in southwestern Europe. Neoplastica´s PET fibre and PET granule activities were not included in the acquisition, a Pentaplast spokesman confirmed to PIE. A Neoplastica subsidiary purchased the Portuguese Trevira activities in spring of this year (see Plasteurope.com 11, 2002 “Pointers”).
