KANEKA

Japan's Kaneka Corp. has entered the European market for glues and sealants. A plant for starting materials "MS polymer" and "Silyl", used for the most part in the building industry, went onstream last October at Belgian subsidiary Kaneka Belgium NV (Nijverheldstraat 16, B-2260 Westerlo-Oevel). The BEF 850m, 5,000 t/y facility will also produce sealants for the automobile repair sector and industrial applications. Kaneka claims to be Japan's market leader for building sealants with a share of 37%. The Belgian subsidiary, the group's first overseas, was founded in 1970 to produce impact modifiers for PVC as well as the PE and PP-based moulding foam "Esperan". It employs 200 and has annual sales of BEF 4bn.
