Large aromatics complex in Singapore being started up / PX oversupply increases
China is not the only country producing ever more volumes of PET and polyester feedstock paraxylene (PX). Jurong Aromatics (Singapore; www.jurongaromatics.com) in late August commissioned a new large aromatics hub in the island state. Plasteurope.com’s Polyglobe capacity database www.polyglobe.net) shows that aside from 400,000 t/y benzene line as well as a 200,000 t/y ortho xylene plant, the complex also includes an 800,000 t/y PX facility.

The new capacity will further flood the already oversupplied Asian and global PX landscape. Reports indicate that initial volumes from the plant are already being made available in Asia.
