JOHNSON CONTROLS
Takes over full ownership of Tata Johnson Controls in India / Plans to expand engineering in Pune
For an undisclosed price, US automotive component supplier Johnson Controls (Milwaukee, Wisconsin; www.johnsoncontrols.com) has recently taken full ownership of Tata JohnsonControls (TJC, Pune / India). Previously Johnson Controls had been in a 50:50 joint venture with Tata Automotive Components (Pune / India; www.tata.com) in the TJC Pune entity, which primarily supplies automotive seat systems and components to the Indian market working with most of the major OEMs located in the country.
"India is an emerging market and part of Johnson Controls' global strategy for sustainable growth," stated Paul Chawla, president and chief executive officer, Johnson Controls Automotive Experience India. "We are strongly committed to continuing to invest in our Indian business."
In a statement to the media, the company emphasized the importance India plays within Johnson Control's global engineering network and said it will continue to develop its engineering expertise at the new technical centre in Pimpri, north of Pune, India's ninth-largest metropolitan area. Current plans call for expanding its prototype and testing capabilities for the India region.
The transaction has implications for 11 locations across India, including an engineering centre in West Indian Pune, and approximately 2,100 employees. The Milwaukee-based company has had a presence in India since 1995.
