JOHNSON CONTROLS
Automotive business of Romania's Spumotim acquired
Johnson Controls (JCI, Europe: Burscheid / Germany; www.johnsoncontrols.com) has acquired the automotive business of PU foam parts manufacturer Spumotim (Timisoara / Romania; www.spumotim.ro) for an undisclosed sum. The deal has already received the official blessing of the cartel authorities. JCI expects Romania’s automotive market to grow by about 80% over the next four years.
"Romania is an important part of the growing eastern European automotive market,” said Brian Cooke, vice president and general manager of the global foam business unit at Johnson Controls Automotive Experience. “The acquisition of Spumotim is intended to support several of our customers - Dacia, Ford and Fiat - that operate production facilities in the region." Ahead of this takeover, Spumotim had supplied JCI with polyurethane foam. The Romanian company’s automotive division employs 300 workers. As a result of the acquisition, JCI will receive Spumotim’s headquarters, its lead plant in Timisoara as well as another production facility in Pitesi.
