KBR recovery process selected for Mongolian methanol-to-olefins project
Jiutai Energy Group (Beijing / China; www.chinajiutai.com) has selected KBR (Houston, Texas / USA: www.kbr.com) technology for its methanol-to-olefins (MTO) recovery project in Ordos, Inner Mongolia / China. The project will produce 600,000 t/y of ethylene and propylene, KBR said.

UOP (Des Plaines, Illinois / USA; www.uop.com), a subsidiary of Honeywell (Morris Township, New Jersey / USA; www.honeywell.com) is supplying its technology to convert the methanol into olefin effluents and, in a second phase, the effluents will go through the KBR MTO recovery process to be separated into polymer grades of ethylene and propylene. According to UOP, the Jiutai plant is expected to start up in 2014 – see Plasteurope.com of 27.09.2012.

KBR also announced that it will supply its technology for a new olefins recovery unit in Yulin, Shanxi / China. This MTO project will also have a 600,000 t/y olefins capacity. It is planned to come on stream in 2014.
