Propylene and phenol plants planned in China / Technologies provided by Honeywell subsudiary UOP
Jiangsu Haili Chemical Industry plans to build a production complex for propylene, cumene and phenol based on UOP (Des Plaines, Illinois / USA; www.uop.com) technology in Dafeng, Jiangsu / China. UOP, a Honeywell (www.honeywell.com) subsidiary, said the units are expected to start up in 2014, and will produce 510,000 t/y of propylene, 473,000 t/y of cumene and 360,000 t/y of phenol.
UOP’s C3 "Oleflex” technology will be used to convert propane to propylene, while the company’s “Q-Max” and phenol technologies will be integrated to convert cumene to phenol. UOP will also provide engineering design, catalysts, adsorbents, equipment, staff training and technical service for the project. Demand for propylene, used in the production of materials such as films and packaging, and phenol, a building block for plastic and nylon, is growing around the world, particularly in China, stated Pete Piotrowski, senior vice president for process technology and equipment at UOP.
