Insolvent household goods manufacturer announces complete withdrawal from Europe
— By Plasteurope.com staff —

Sixty-three years after the first ‘Tupperware party’ in the country, Tupperware Brands (Orlando, Florida, USA; www.tupperware.com) has officially discontinued its business activities in Germany, according to an announcement made by the insolvent US household goods manufacturer. The statement reads: “Thank you for being an essential part of our journey with Tupperware. Your passion has a long-lasting impact! We will remember these many moments together fondly.” In addition, all orders received by 29 December 2024 will be processed, writes the company with its two managing directors for Germany, Marco De Benedetti and Steven Marcus Ramos

Tupperware is not only discontinuing its business operations in Germany, but the heavily indebted company is also planning a “complete operational withdrawal from markets outside the global core regions”, as CEO Laurie Ann Goldman announced last October when she presented the reorganisation strategy. According to media reports, the group intends to concentrate on North, Central, and South America, besides China and India. Following the takeover of the insolvent company by main creditors Stonehill Capital Management Partners and Alden Global Capital in autumn 2024, the mountain of debt has shrunk. It still remains high at USD 747 mn (EUR 724 mn), however.

According to media reports, the fact that Tupperware is giving up its business in Europe could affect around 100,000 independent consultants and 350 employees. The company did not provide any figures. The last annual report on the parent company’s US website dates back to 2022. In Germany, Tupperware most recently had around 12,000 consultants and employed around 60 people.
