IRELAND
Injection moulding data base / Details on 115 firms
A comprehensive data base on the injection moulding industry in Ireland, published on CD-ROM by market research group Applied Market Information (AMI, Bristol / UK; www.amiplastics.com), provides comprehensive details on 115 Irish moulders. AMI lists a number of interesting facts – for example, that nearly half of Ireland´s injection moulders supply the medical sector and nearly half of the industry´s total output is used at home. Some 25% is exported within Europe. The researchers document a "relatively high use" of engineering resins, with a focus on PA and ABS, while noting that the most popular material is a standard thermoplastic – PP – which accounted for around a third of the 56,000 t estimated to have been processed in Ireland in 2005.
