KBR provides engineering services for US nylon feedstock project
US polymers and fibres producer Invista (Wichita, Kansas; www.invista.com) has selected KBR (Houston, Texas / USA: www.kbr.com) to provide construction services for its new adiponitrile (ADN) project in Orange, Texas / USA. ADN is a key intermediate used in the production of nylon 6.6.
Invista said last year that the project, which involves retrofitting an existing plant with its new ADN technology, is expected to require a USD 100m (EUR 76m) investment and come onstream in 2014. The technology involves butadiene-based chemistry, and has been tested at a pilot-scale facility at the Orange site – see Plasteurope.com of 22.05.2012.
Under the contract, KBR will provide pre-construction and multi-discipline construction services for mechanical, equipment settings, structural steel, electrical and instrumentation.
