New nylon salt production plant in Rozenburg
Invista (Wichita, Kansas / USA; www.invista.com) is investing in a new nylon salt production plant in Rozenburg / The Netherlands. The US polymer and fibre producer said construction of the facility had already begun, adding production is due to commence at the end of the year. The group did not specify the plant’s capacity, saying only that it would enhance its vertically integrated position in the marketplace.
Nylon salt is made from adipic acid and hexamethylenediamine, and is an important feedstock for PA 6.6. Invista manufactures Nylon for fibre and plastics applications as well as its “Torzen” PA 6.6 grades in Rozenburg, serving the automotive, E&E and consumer goods sectors. According to Plasteurope.com’s Polyglobe capacity database (www.polyglobe.net), the US company can produce 90,000 t/y of nylon 6.6 at the site.
