US automotive parts producer opens new plants in Romania and China / German technical centre relocated and expanded
US automotive parts manufacturer Inteva Products (Troy, Michigan; www.intevaproducts.com) has significantly expanded its global presence by opening two new production sites. The company did not provide any details on the investment costs. The first, located in Oradea / Romania, will produce roof system components and will cater mostly to the group’s European clientele. Inteva already operates a plant in the country, situated in Salonta, located about 40 km southwest of the new facility. Production in Oradea is due to begin this summer, and the company will start hiring more than 100 employees and commence training this month. Inteva CEO Lon Offenbacher said the second Romanian site will nearly double the company’s manufacturing presence in the country.
Further east, in Wuhan / China, Intera has also set up a new roof systems plant. The facility began production for GAC Fiat in early April. Inteva now operates seven plants in China, including Changchun, Chengdu, Waigaoqiao and Zhenjiang. It also is a partner in two Shanghai-based joint ventures, SDADS and SAMAP.
At the same time, the automotive parts producer announced that it would relocate its technical centre in Wuppertal / Germany to a new location in nearby Solingen. Aside from the larger office and laboratory, the new premises are also closer to several group customers, the company said, adding that the technical centre will develop, engineer, design and test products for European OEMs – including Daimler, Volkswagen and BMW.
Inteva Products manufactures closure, interior and roof systems as well as engine and electronic parts. Aside from a range of injection moulding techniques, the company’s plastics arm also extrudes sheet, laminates, foams and thermoforms. The group’s total global workforce exceeds 12,500, spread across 42 sites in 18 countries – including 10 in Europe. First established in 2008, the company in 2011 acquired the multibody system business of Arvin Meritor, thereby doubling sales to USD 2.4 bn.
Inteva is a wholly owned subsidiary of family-owned holding The Renco Group (New York / USA; www.rencogroup.net).
