After the apparently successful tests to replace naphtha with pyrolysis oil in one of its two crackers in Cologne, Germany, London-based Ineos (www.ineos.com) plans to build a commercial recycling plant on the site with Plastic Energy (London; www.plasticenergy.com – see Plasteurope.com of 29.04.2020).

The partners said the plant is to convert mixed plastic waste into so-called Tacoil, which is named for Plastic Energy’s thermal anaerobic conversion – or TAC – technology. Output is estimated at 100,000 t/y, which will be fed into the cracker. However, the start of production – originally planned for 2023 – is now set for the end of 2026.

Ineos also wants to pre-treat the pyrolysis oil between the recycling plant and the cracker, a plan similar to what Shell announced mid-year (see Plasteurope.com of 18.07.2022).
