Acetic acid agreement with BP for VAM plant in Hull
Ensuring the future feedstock supply for its vinyl acetate monomer (VAM) plant in Saltend, Hull / UK, Ineos Enterprises (Rolle / Switzerland; www.ineos.com) on 19 December announced that it had signed an agreement with BP (London / UK; www.bp.com) under the terms of which the latter will supply the Hull site with key raw material acetic acid.
Ineos had acquired the plant from BP in 2008 (see Plasteurope.com of 17.01.2008) and later ramped up output to 300,000 t/y. The facility is fed with ethylene from a pipeline linking the site to Ineos’ cracker in Grangemouth / UK, while the acetic acid is sourced from a nearby BP plant. The resulting VAM goes to both UK companies as well as the European trade market, Ineos said.
