INDORAMA
Acquisition of Polyplex's Turkish PET plant wrapped up / Facility now operates as Indorama Ventures Corlu PET
On 2 March global PET market leader Indorama Ventures (IVL, Bangkok / Thailand; www.indorama.net) officially became the new owner of the Corlu / Turkey-based PET plant previously part of India’s Polyplex (Gautam Budh Nagar; www.polyplex.com) – for previous coverage, see Plasteurope.com of 12.01.2015. The facility has now been renamed Indorama Ventures Corlu PET, but it still remains unclear whether the recently completed plant has begun commercial production.
A look at Plasteurope.com’s Polyglobe capacity database (www.polyglobe.net) shows that the facility can turn out 252,000 t/y. The addition brings Indorama’s total PET capacity in Turkey to 382,000 t/y, while European capacity now exceeds the Thai group's 1.4m t/y of PET – although more than 300,000 t/y of this figure are held by mothballed plants in the UK and Italy (see also Plasteurope.com of 25.02.2015). Indorama’s global PET capacities approach 4m t/y – more than double those of the world’s second largest producer, Mexico’s Alpek group.
