Polyurethane producer Huntsman (The Woodlands, Texas / USA; www.huntsman.com) has signed a definitive agreement with chemical group Sasol (Johannesburg / South Africa; www.sasol.com) to purchase the 50% stake it does not own in the two companies’ joint venture for maleic anhydride production in Moers / Germany. The purchase is for USD 92.5m (around EUR 83m), with the transaction scheduled to close in the fourth quarter of 2019.
Since its last expansion in 2011, the Sasol-Huntsman plant (www.its-all-maleic.com) has a capacity of 105,000 t/y for speciality resins production, among other things. Major parts of the facilities in Moers were acquired by Ineos (Rolle / Switzerland; www.ineos.com) in 2013, when the Swiss company took over Sasol’s European solvent business – see Plasteurope.com of 19.12.2013.
