European court dismisses appeal against anti-competitive ruling

Finnish packaging producer Huhtamaki (Espoo; www.huhtamaki.com) has lost its appeal against a European Commission 2015 ruling on anti-competitive behaviour. The General Court of the European Union dismissed the company’s petition on 11 July 2019.
Certain of Huhtamaki’s operations in Northwestern Europe and France were found guilty in June 2015 of anti-competitive practices in the market for plastic trays used for packaging fresh food during the period 2002-2006. The European Commission fined the Finnish company EUR 15.6m. Huhtamaki also incurred legal costs of EUR 2.7m.
