Huhtamaki (Espoo / Finland; www.huhtamaki.com) is expanding its reach to the US southwest and west coast by investing more than USD 100m in a new manufacturing and distribution facility located in Goodyear, Arizona / USA. Most of the money is to be made available this year and next, with the modified facility due to start functioning as a distribution centre in early 2017.

Production at the plant – which will primarily turn out paper cups, carton packaging and pressed paperboard plates, but also plastic cups and lids – is due to commence in late 2017. Calling the investment significant, company CEO Jukka Moisio added that it will allow the group “to further grow our foodservice business in the United States.”

Huhtamaki just announced a EUR 15m plan to modernise its plant in Guangzhou / China. That work is also expected to be completed in late 2017 (see Plasteurope.com of 21.09.2016).
