HUBER PACKAGING
Mexico's Envases Group acquires German packaging specialist
Plastic and tinplate packaging manufacturer Huber Packaging Group (Öhringen / Germany; www.huber-packaging.com) is being acquired by Envases Europe (Odense / Denmark; www.envases.mx). The move was announced in December 2020 by the European subsidiary of Mexican packaging manufacturer Envases Group (Mexico City; www.envases.mx) and the German family-run company. Competition authorities are currently examining the acquisition, which is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2021. The two sides have agreed to not disclose any financial details.

With the acquisition, Envases Europe is expanding its portfolio for plastic bottles. While the Danes have so far produced only PET bottles, Huber operates a Competence Centre for Plastics (Aesch / Switzerland; www.huber-packaging.ch), where it develops and produces packaging made of polyethylene, polypropylene and PET.

With around 900 employees, Huber currently has production facilities in Germany, Austria, Hungary, Switzerland and the UK. The acquisition will increase the workforce of Envases Europe to some 2,000 employees and lift the number of production sites to 13 in Europe.
