HT TROPLAST
“Trolit”: insulating material for “hot goods”
HT Troplast AG (PO Box 1165, D-53839 Troisdorf) has developed an incombustible insulating material. According to the company, the properties of this “inorganic plastic”, with the brand name “Trolit” (chief components: silicon and aluminium) are to be rated between concrete and ceramics. The chief advantage of this material: it does not burn, does not release any toxic gases when it gets hot and is also very lightweight. Depending on the formulation, its temperature resistance is between 1000 and 1500 °C. The material can be cast, extruded, compression moulded and coloured in bulk. The material is available as a raw material or a moulded article in two basic types: as “Trolit (AOS)” foam (open or closed-pore with different pore sizes, bulk density 200 to 800 kg/m3) or as compact material “Trolit (AOM)” with a bulk density of 1.5 to 3.0 g/cm3.

The material has a high application potential, being highly suited for fire-proof heat insulation or heat-resistant soundproofing. HT Troplast is currently engaged in negotiations with the automotive industry, Dr. Ekkehard Liefke, head of development for “Trolit”, explained to the press. He also sees attractive applications in aircraft construction.

“Trolit” product information with a technical datasheet (German): PIE-No. 43562.
