HT TROPLAST
Sales stable in 2002 / Expansion in China and Eastern Europe / Restructuring in profiles
By its own estimation, HT Troplast (D-53839 Troisdorf; www.ht-troplast.com) fared well in 2002, despite the continuing weakness of the building industry. Group sales worldwide rose slightly to EUR 855m (847m), while pretax profit, after depreciations, fell to EUR 26m (29m). The European subgroup recorded virtually stable sales at EUR 741m (744m).
In the company´s biggest division – plastic window profiles – both the “Trocal” business unit (including “Knipping”) and subsidiary KBE Kunststoffproduktion (D- 12277 Berlin; www.kbe-online.de) registered an increase in sales. This rise is due first and foremost to a growing amount of business in central and eastern Europe. Sales at subsidiary Kömmerling (D-66954 Pirmasens; www.koemmerling.de), by contrast, were down 3.5% compared with the previous year, at EUR 318m. This decline is due to the weakness of the construction sector in Germany.
In the remaining company divisions, Trocellen foams experienced less positive development. Both “Trosifol” special film and “Dynos” vulcanised fibre, by contrast, posted an increase in their result. Kömmerling´s plastic sheet business also flourished, particularly in the US, says HT.
The group is currently expanding with a range of different activities. A Trosifol facility is being built near Nizhni Novgorod in Russia, for example, while Kömmerling´s US sheet facility in Huntsville, Alabama, is being extended, as is the profile plant in Voskresensk near Moscow. The most spectacular project is the Kömmerling profile facility which opened at the end of February 2003 in the Chinese town of Tianjin near Bejing. Ten thousand tonnes per year will be processed at the outset. When the facility has attained its definitive size in 2007, it will have a mixing capacity of 65,000 t/y, with an annual output of 55,000 t.
