TPEs made from recycled maritime waste / Partnership with Danish Plastix
Hexpol (Malmö, Sweden; www.hexpol.com), a compounder of thermoplastic elastomers (TPE), has made a new material that contains recycled maritime waste, such as ropes, used fishnets, and trawls, sourced from Danish recycling firm Plastix (Lemvig; www.plastixglobal.com).

The Dryflex Circular MWR (maritime waste recyclate) TPEs have recycled content ranging from 10-60% and offer hardness of 40 Shore A to 50 Shore D. They are available in four colours – black, blue, green, and mint.

“We are continually investigating new recyclate sources to support the shift away from virgin materials. Reutilising what would be waste and giving it a new life to help keep valuable materials in circulation,” said Jill Bradford, global marketing manager at Hexpol TPE.

She added that Plastix has also conducted life cycle assessments to provide data on the carbon footprint of its products.
