Acquisition of Berwin Group / Wider footprint in UK rubber compounding
Strengthening its presence in the UK market, Swedish compounder Hexpol (Malmö; www.hexpol.com) has acquired the Berwin Group (Dukinfield / UK; www.berwin-rubber.co.uk) for around GBP 25m (EUR 32m).
One of the UK’s leading rubber compounders, the group comprises Berwin Rubber, Berwin Industrial Polymers and Flexi-Cell (UK) with manufacturing facilities in Manchester and Gloucestershire. It has an estimated annual turnover of GBP 40m and employs around 200 people.
“This is a further step in expanding and strengthening the Hexpol Group with a further acquisition within our core business,” commented Georg Brunstam, Hexpol’s CEO. The purchase price will be funded by a combination of cash and existing bank facilities.
The Swedish group purports to be one of the world's leading polymers players, with a global presence. It reccently brought on stream a new rubber compounding line in Mexico (see Plasteurope.com of 26.02.2016).
