Plans for new electronics plant in Lithuania
The automotive supplier Hella (Lippstadt / Germany; www.hella.com) is planning a new production facility for electronic components in Lithuania. Discussions about the exact location in the Kaunas region – about 150 km west of the capital Vilnius – are apparently nearing completion. Start-up of the approximately EUR 30m production facility is scheduled for mid-2018.
On an initial 7,000 m², around 250 employees will then manufacture sensors, actuators and control modules for the automotive industry – including plastic-content components. However, no injection moulding production is planned at the location and these parts will be purchased, the Lippstadt office noted at Plasteurope.com's request.
Hella management, headed by Rolf Breidenbach, expects a growing demand for electronic components due to the trend towards autonomous cars, as well as further electrification and digitisation.
