HELLA
UK plant for moulded headlamps
Hella KG Hueck & Co (D-59552 Lippstadt), the German automotive lighting specialist, will build a GBP 27m factory in the UK, to make headlamps and mould plastics lenses for major European auto manufacturers. It will install "significant" injection moulding capacity. The new plant will be alongside an existing Hella 500sqm plant at Banbury (between Oxford and Birmingham) since 1991. The new plant will be 1200sqm in the first stage.
Hella has won a number of contracts from existing UK customers and is banking on an overall increase in car production in the UK over the new five years. The company has several plants in Europe and is also in North America and Australasia and Asia. Lighting makes up half of its sales, but electronic and electro-technical systems are significant.
