Blast at PVC plant leaves six workers dead / Investigation underway
An explosion that occurred at Hanwha’s (Seoul / South Korea; http://hcc.hanwha.co.kr) PVC plant in Ulsan / South Korea on 3 July left six workers dead, local media report. Another employee was left injured by the blast, which was most likely the result of a welding spark coming into contact with the site's methane or biochemical gas storage. The explosion occurred as workers were doing welding work on a storage tank containing waste. An investigation into the cause of the accident is underway.

According to Plasteurope.com’s Polyglobe capacity database (www.polyglobe.net), Hanwha operates a 310,000 t/y PVC line in Ulsan that is fully backward integrated into EDC.
