AKRO-PLASTIC
German engineering compound capacity expansion is brought on stream
One year after construction first began (see Plasteurope.com of 22.08.2011), Feddersen subsidiary Akro-Plastic (Niederzissen / Germany; www.akro-plastic.com) commissioned its new production hall at group headquarters. The group is in the midst of installing the site’s first Feddem extruders and plans to have about three or four of them up and running by the end of this year. “The building allows for further expansion,” a company spokesman told Plasteurope.com, adding that “up to 14 extrusion lines can be fitted.” Once all the new lines come on stream, Akro-Plastic will have raised the site’s output by 60,000 t/y to slightly more than 100,000 t/y. The group also plans to simultaneously increase its Niederzissen workforce of 162 by 80 new employees.
Akro-Plastic specialises in the production of PA 6 and 6.6 compounds (“Akromid” and “Akroloy”), as well as specialty compounds such as PA 6.10 and blends (6T). The company also engages in the contract manufacture of PBT-based compounds.
Aside from its main plant in Niederzissen, where its AF Color (Niederzissen; http://af-color.com) subsidiary is also located, Akro-Plastic also operates two additional compounding lines with overall capacity for 7,000 t/y at its Akro Engineering Plastics (Suzhou, Jiangsu / China; www.kdf.com.cn) subsidiary bringing overall capacity to around 115.000 t/y.
