Technology contract for Korea PX project awarded to CB&I / Start-up expected in 2016
South Korean energy group GS Caltex (Seoul; www.gscaltex.com) has awarded a contract to CB&I (The Woodlands, Texas / USA; www.cbi.com) for the licence, basic engineering and catalyst supply for its PX project in Yeosu / South Korea. The project will use BP PX technology, exclusively licensed by CB&I and start-up is expected in 2016, CB&I said.

In April 2012 GS Caltex signed an MoU with Showa Shell Sekiyu (Tokyo / Japan; www.showa-shell.co.jp/english) and Japan’s Taiyo Oil (Tokyo; www.taiyooil.net/english) to build the plant – see Plasteurope.com of 17.04.2012. The companies said then the project would raise PX capacity at the GS Caltex Yeosu complex from 1.35m t/y to 2.35m t/y. GS Caltex is owned by South Korea’s GS Holdings and US energy giant Chevron.
