GS CALTEX
South Korean group expands it compounding activities in China
Just days after announcing its first entry into the European market in the form of a 30,000 t/y engineering PP compounds line in the Czech Republic – see Plasteurope.com of 26.10.2011 – South Korea’s GS Caltex (Yeosu; www.gscaltex.com) reportedly has begun commercial operations at its new 37,000 t/y polymer compound plant in Suzhou, Jiangsu / China. Output of the new facility is to go towards the automotive and white goods sectors.
The new plant is GS Caltex’s second in the People’s Republic. The group – a 50:50 joint venture between Korea’s GS Holdings and Chevron Corporation – has been operating a 40,000 t/y polymer compound plant in Langfang, Hebei since 2006. The new Chinese facility and the Czech plant illustrate GS Caltex’s efforts to globalise its activities and move away from its traditional focus on refining.
