Grupa Azoty’s (Tarnów / Poland; www.grupaazoty.com) compounding unit has started up a new plant in southern Poland at its headquarters in Tarnów. This follows a construction period of around one and a half years. The new facility has a capacity of 50,000 t/y of polyamide compounds and is to supply the automotive, E&E, household appliances and construction sectors. Investment costs for the project amounted to PLN 100m (around EUR 23.5m), with Akro-Plastic (Niederzissen / Germany; www.akro-plastic.com) acting as technical advisor during the construction – see Plasteurope.com of 16.01.2018.
The Polish group has production capacities for 170,000 t/y of PA 6. According to Plasteurope.com’s Polyglobe database (www.polyglobe.net), around three quarters of this capacity is in Tarnów, with the rest found at its plant in Guben / Germany. The feedstock, caprolactam, is produced at its site in Puławy / Poland.
