GROSVENOR WASTE MANAGEMENT
Automatic waste recycling line / Plastic bottles separated into four types / Over 95% purity
An automatic sorting line for materials recycling has been installed by Grosvenor Waste Management (Crayford, London / UK; www.grosvenorwaste.co.uk) at a cost of GBP 1.3m (about EUR 1.9m). The line incorporates optical sorting equipment and automatically separates three types of plastic bottle and steel and aluminium cans. It removes contamination such as paper and glass from the bottles and cans. Two Coloursort units, from TiTech (Oslo / Norway; www.titech.com), separate plastic bottles into four grades: clear PET, mixed PET, natural HDPE and mixed plastics. Purity rates for the clear bottles should exceed 95%, the company said. The line has an annual capacity of 25,000 t for cans and bottles. The project received a capital grant of GBP 250,000 from the London Recycling Fund (www.londonwasteaction.org). In the near future it will be supplemented with a GBP 450,000 investment for new conveyor belts to improve the delivery of waste into the sorting line.
