GREINER
1993 expansion in Eastern Europe / Foam joint venture with Recticel successful
Despite the economic crisis and currency decline in several European countries, in the company year 1993/94 (ending 31.03.), Greiner Holding AG (PO Box 6, A-4550 Kremsmünster) managed to increase its consolidated group turnover slightly to Ös 3.85bn (3.79bn) (DM 549m). In the Eastern European reforming countries the Group companies produced a growth of 33% and overseas subsidiaries had a growth of 40%. Cash flow increased to Ös 460m (410m).
Via the 50/50 joint venture company Eurofoam GmbH, which it formed in May 1993 with Recticel SA (12 avenue de Broqueville, B-1150 Brussels), based in Kremsmünster, Greiner has holdings in Schäumereien Poran (PO Box 6, H-3792 Sajobabony) and Polopren (ul Szczawinska 42, P-95100 Sgierz), and also in Schneidewerkstätten Stanpol, Poland, BPP sro (ul Hajecka, CZ-61800 Brünn), Sinfo (Czech Republic) and Poly sro (Dolne Rudiny 1, SR-01001 Zilina). In the plastics business sector too, Greiner has reinforced its presence in Eastern Europe. In the summer of 1993 the Group took over 100% of the former mould-making company of Gronio, Budweis/Czech Republic. In September 1993, Greiner formed a joint venture, Zagra (PL-85825 Bydgoszcz), which has been producing window profiles since April 1994.
The largest business sector, with a 49% share of the total turnover, was the foam division. It had success in selling aircraft seating and vandal-proof cushions for railway carriages. Greiner expects good market opportunities in the area of acoustic insulation technology with a newly-developed window designed for acoustic insulation. The second-largest part of the Group was plastics technology, with a 29% share. While in Austria sales in food packaging and garden products fell back, the companies in the Eastern European reformed countries recorded strong growths. Battery case manufacture, extrusion dies and machinery construction as well as window profile extrusion developed well/very well. With an increase of 23%, the mould-making side further built up its (according to company information) world-leadership.
The share in sales of recycling activities rose to 17% (15%). Measured in the total material processing, the sales volume of recycled material increased to 36% (33%). For the current company year, Greiner is counting on growth of more than 10%. For Germany, growth of 5% is expected, for Austria 10% and in Eastern Europe an increase of 25% is forecast.
