Purchase of Sweden's Hannells Industrier
US packaging group Greif (Delaware, Ohio; www.greif.com) has acquired Scandinavian packaging specialist Hannells Industrier (Falkenburg / Sweden; www.hannells.se) for an undisclosed sum.
Hannells has about 240 employees at factories in Falkenburg, Herning / Denmark and Fredrikstad / Norway. Production includes plastic and steel drums, plastic cans and plastic buckets, as well as intermediate bulk containers for customers mainly in the chemical and paint industries.
Greif said it expects earnings from the acquisition to be accretive to its 2010 fiscal year, which began on 1 November. Michael Gasser, Greif’s CEO, said he expects Hannells’ “technical knowledge in plastics, impressive production capabilities and finely targeted geographic range to be great assets for Greif”.
