Macedonian Plastics purchased by Petzetakis / Pipes and tubes
Sources from Athens report that the largest Greek plastics manufacturer, Petzetakis SA of Athens, has purchased a majority share of 53% in the second largest Greek manufacturer (Macedonian Plastics SA of Thessalonica) for Dr 3,465bn. The turnover of the two firms was about Dr 30bn in 1993, with a combined market share of over 75% of the Greek market for PVC piping, and more than 52% of all plastic tubing. Branch experts estimate that the Greek demand for these products rose to 75,115 t in 1992.
Petzetakis also takes control of Kavala Plastics SA and Macedonian Plastic Foils SA, both of which are subsidiaries of Macedonian Plastics. Petzetakis employs 700 people and produces plastic tubing 50,000 tpa as well as hoses from PVC and PE. Macedonian Plastics, with 180 employees, also produce PVC and PE pipes for drainage and irrigation, for household and industry including bore holes. The Petzetakis group, which concentrates on exports, reports that it is the sixth largest European plastics manufacturer.
