GRAMMER
Building fourth plant in North America to serve as US headquarters and manufacturing hub / New facility goes on stream in Serbia
Over the course of the next three years, German automotive supplier Grammer (Amberg; www.grammer.com) is investing a sum just shy of EUR 10m in a new plant in Tupelo, Mississippi / USA. Once completed, the production facility will simultaneously serve as the group’s US headquarters. It remains unclear what exactly Grammer – a specialist in the production of seating systems and vehicle interior components – will be producing at the site. A company spokesperson did not provide any further details in response to a relevant query by Plasteurope.com.
Grammer’s existing US operations include a seat manufacturing plant in Hudson, Wisconsin as well as a product development centre in Troy, Michigan. The company also manufactures interior components for utility vehicles in London, Ohio. The crux of its North American operations, however, are its two large production sites in Mexico – based in Tetla and Queretaro. The company reported for the group’s overseas business – which refers to the North American operations – sales of EUR 233m in 2012. Grammer will announce its 2013 results at the end of March. Numerous media reports indicate that group CEO Hartmut Müller plans to double sales in the NAFTA region within the next five years.
The German company recently commissioned its new headrest manufacturing plant in Aleksinac / Serbia – see also Plasteurope.com of 06.08.2013.
