Composites materials will be used by GKN Aerospace (Yeovil / UK; www.aerospace.gknplc.com) to develop and build blended winglets for Aviation Partners Boeing (www.aviationpartnersboeing.com) for its "Boeing 767-300ER" airliner. First deliveries of the 3.4m-tall winglets, which provide operators with fuel-saving and performance benefits, will commence in Q4 2008.
The agreement between the two companies covers the supply of 300 winglets for the 767-300ER and a further 200 for the 737-300/500 model. According to GKN Aerospace CEO Marcus Bryson, the company's manufacture of composites winglets could generate income of USD 100m. American Airlines will be the first Boeing customer for aircraft fitted with the GKN winglets.
