Italian media report that plant manufacturer Ghioldi (Marnate / Italy; www.ghioldi.it) has filed for insolvency. Since its foundation in 1962, the small family-run business has been manufacturing blown and cast film lines for up to seven-layer films. But when the 2008 economic crisis hit, Ghioldi found itself in financial disarray, from which it was not able to emerge on its own. Before filing for insolvency, a mere 17 employees remained at company headquarters in Marnate. Newspapers now report that CEO Angelo Ghioldi has severed all contact with his workers. The company reportedly owes two banks a combined sum of EUR 4.5m.
