GE PLASTICS
"Lexan OQ" production for CDs expanded / New polycarbonate solar control sheets
At the beginning of April, GE Plastics (GEP, European HQ: PO Box 117, NL-4600 AC Bergen op Zoom) began production of its "Lexan OQ"(optical quality polycarbonate) at Bergen op Zoom. Output is to be used in compact discs (CDs), for which GEP claims to be largest global polycarbonate supplier. Production facilities are in the US, Japan and Europe. Thanks to the popularity of CDs for audio and computer applications, demand for CD-quality PC continues to rise. For storage and transport of "Lexan OQ" GEP offers logistics systems such as its "Geocon" bulk solids container.
The plastics group meanwhile has expanded its "Lexan Solar Control" polycarbonate sheet series to include a new multicompartment product sold under the trade name "Venetian". The sheets are a speciality developed by GEP to reduce heat buildup generated by exposure of glass walls to the sun. According to the producer, the new sheets can reflect up to 50% of infrared rays.
