GE PLASTICS
Acquisition of LNP Engineering Plastics / Building a worldwide compounding network
World market leader for engineering plastics GE Plastics (GEP, Europe: NL-4600 AC Bergen op Zoom; www.geplastics.com) plans to acquire LNP Engineering Plastics (Europe: NL-4940 AA Ramsdonksveer; www.lnp.com), the compounding business of Kawasaki Steel, for an undisclosed sum. The deal is set to close during the first quarter of this year. The business is to be combined with GE´s compounding activities to create a worldwide network.
Specialised in high performance compounds, LNP produces at 13 locations worldwide, including five in the US, one each in Canada, Mexico, Brazil and Malaysia. European sites are at Ramsdonksveer headquarters, Italy, France and the UK. The portfolio includes glass- and carbon fibre-reinforced PC, PA and PET, specified PTFE compounds, electrically and thermally conductive mixtures, long fibre reinforced thermoplastics (LFT) as well as smaller amounts of coloured technical thermoplastics with short delivery times. Overall sales in 2000 totalled USD 285m. Kawasaki Steel acquired LNP in 1991 from ICI and expanded it through acquisitions, including the PTFE compound business of DuPont.
