In a move aimed at strengthening its business in Latin America, Gerresheimer (Düsseldorf / Germany; www.gerresheimer.de) has acquired Brazilian pharmaceutical plastic packaging manufacturer Védat (Embu; www.vedat.com.br). The financial details of the transaction were not disclosed, but Gerresheimer CEO Uwe Röhrhoff said the acquisition “perfectly fits our strategy of doubling our sales in the emerging markets from EUR 100m to EUR 200m by 2013.”
Védat’s product portfolio includes plastic closures and containers as well as PET bottles. The company’s 450 employees generated about EUR 45m in sales last year, with most business focused on the Latin American continent.
Gerresheimer already operates three plants in Brazil and one in Argentina. Its insulin pen production facility in Indaiatuba / Brazil was commissioned just April last year – see Plasteurope.com of 09.04.2010. In financial 2010, the German company posted record sales of EUR 1.025 bn.
