GERRESHEIMER
New production facility for insulin pen systems starts up in Brazil
Gerresheimer (Düsseldorf / Germany; www.gerresheimer.com) has started up its new production facility for insulin pen systems in Indaiatuba / Brazil, as announced in January 2010. The company told Plasteurope.com that the plant is still at the fine-tuning stage.
The new facility will manufacture components for insulin pen systems under a cooperation agreement with drug producer Novo Nordisk. The pens allow diabetics to self-inject regularly required insulin doses. Gerresheimer has two production facilities for insulin pen systems in Europe. In addition to the new plant in Indaiatuba, this specialist producer of glass and plastic products has two Latin American sites that manufacture plastic packaging for pharmaceuticals, one in Brazil and one in Argentina.
Gerresheimer also announced that it had opened a new sales office in Moscow / Russia. The office is supposed to strengthen the group's pharmaceutical primary packaging and drug-delivery system businesses. "This is an important strategic move to further develop the emerging pharmaceutical and healthcare markets in Russia and its environs", said group CEO Axel Herberg.
