At "K '95", Gefinex, Gesellschaft für innovative Extrusionsprodukte mbH (Rote Erde 6, D-33803 Steinhagen) presented a line of newly developed polypropylene foams. The portfolio includes extruded PP foam films (XPP), PP pearls and moulded parts made from a particle foam (EPP). The films, which have a thickness of 0.5 to 6mm, are used to produce vacuum moulded packaging materials. The moulded particle foam is a starting material for shock absorbent, reusable packaging materials, as well as energy absorbent safety components for automobiles, such as shock absorbers. Because of their flexibility, PP foams are suitable for many and varied uses, said Gefinex. This, the company pointed out, is in the interest of automobile producers seeking to limit the number and types of plastics used in car parts, in order to create a viable recycling system.

Gefinex is a member of the Fagerdala World Foams AB group (S-13922 Värmdö), which specialises in development, production and processing of polymer foams. The group has production faciilities in Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Norway, Germany, Switzerland, Brazil and Singapore. In addition to new PP foams, the portfolio encompasses cross-linked and non-cross-linked PE foams for heat and noise insulation, as well as polystyrene building products. Fagerdala, which employs 800, has annual sales of around DM 200m.
