Although production at its new plant in Jiaxing / China already began a few months ago, toy manufacturer Lego (Billund / Denmark; www.lego.com) officially inaugurated the 165,000 m2 facility in late November. The state-of-the-art production site is expected to produce between 70-80% of all Lego products sold in Asia – a region where the company has seen strong sales growth (see Plasteurope.com of 12.09.2016).
Home to more than 1,200 employees, the Jiaxing plant adheres to the same global production standards as Lego’s other manufacturing facilities, located in Denmark, Hungary, Mexico and the Czech Republic. The plant is headed by general manager Richard Wong.
Situated on a land plot measuring about 315,000 m2, the facility includes a 25,000 m2 warehouse as well as a 35,000 m2 moulding facility. Lego invested a triple-digit million euro amount in the plant, construction of which first began in April 2014 (see Plasteurope.com of 15.09.2014).
