With its second acquisition since the spin-off of Avient (Avon Lake, Ohio; www.avient.com) – formerly PolyOne – US distributor Formerra (Romeoville, Illinois; www.formerra.com) is set to strengthen its presence on the Mexican market.

The acquired competitor Suministro de Especialidades (Mexico City; www.suministro.com.mx) is a distributor of polymers, elastomers, adhesives, and additives – Formerra is thus also expanding its own portfolio of engineering thermoplastics, additives, and speciality polymers.

Led by Cathy Dodd – who ran the Avient distribution arm before the spin-off – and backed by owner H.I.G. Capital (London; www.higcapital.com), Formerra seems to be on a well-thought-out expansion course. In April 2023, the company acquired Irish compounder and distributor Total Polymer Solutions (TPS, Rathcoole; https://totalpolymer.com) as a European mainstay. TPS also brought with it extensive expertise in medical technology materials, such as PVC and TPE, and colour masterbatches.
