Ferro Spain (Almazora / Spain), part of Ferro Corporation (Cleveland, Ohio / USA; www.ferro.com), has introduced the “Efex Bio” family of environmentally friendly masterbatches of additives and colours for biopolymers in Spain. Ferro previously focused on the production of functional high quality masterbatches for commodity plastics and this capability has now been extended to biodegradable plastics.

The masterbatches are compostable and comply with European standard EN 13432 outlining the requirements for packaging recovery through composting and biodegradation. A certification to the “Ok compost” conformity mark had previously been issued by Belgium’s AIB-Vinçotte International (Vilvoorde; www.aib-vincotte.com) for part of the range.
