US automotive OEM buys Mexican competitor Tepso Plastics Mex
Leading US automotive injection moulder Farathane (Auburn Hills, Michigan; www.usfarathane.com) is expanding its footprint in the growing Mexican automotive market. The company in mid-January announced that it had acquired local OEM injection moulder Tepso Plastics Mex (Apodaca / Mexico; www.tepsoplastics.com.mx). Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
Tepso Plastics Mex operated two production facilities in Monterrey and Romita. The polymers used by the company include PP (also glass-reinforced), PS, ABS, POM, PC, PA (also glass-reinforced), TPE and PTO, as well as PC/ABS blends. Founded in 2005, the company today operates 16 injection moulding machines with a clamping range from 500-10,000 kN. Aside from automotive applications – Tepso Plastics Mex produces both interior and exterior parts – the company also caters to the E&E and medical markets.
With annual sales of more than USD 450m, Farathane employs about 2,500 workers at its 13 production sites in the US and Mexico. Specialised in automotive interior and exterior plastic components, Farathane’s customers include FCA, Ford, GM, Honda and Toyota, among others. The injection moulder was purchased by US investor The Gores Group (Los Angeles, California; www.gores.com) in January 2015 (see Plasteurope.com of 20.01.2015).
