More exhibitors, more display area, more trade visitors: the 25th "Fakuma" – the international trade fair for plastics processing – which took place in Friedrichshafen / Germany from 17-21 October 2017 (www.fakuma-messe.de), broke several records. According to event organiser P. E. Schall (Frickenhausen / Germany; www.schall-messen.de), the anniversary edition of the show on the shore of Lake Constance attracted 48,375 trade visitors from 128 countries, which was 2,654 visitors more than at the previous event in autumn 2015, and a new all-time record.
The number of exhibitors was also the highest recorded. With an exhibition space of more than 85,000 m², 1,889 (2015: 1,780) exhibitors from 38 countries showcased their products and services. The proportion of exhibitors from abroad was 41.5%, most of them from Italy (144) and China (118), followed by neighbouring countries Switzerland (114), Austria (73) and France (48). The list was rounded off by Portugal (39), the Netherlands (32), Czech Republic (27), Belgium (24), Turkey (22) and UK (19).
As usual, the exhibition focused primarily on injection moulding machines, thermoforming technology, extrusion lines, mould systems, materials and moulded parts. There was also strong interest in the increasingly important topics of Industry 4.0, additive manufacturing, lightweight construction and e-mobility. During the five-day show, visitors were able to attend a total of 38 lectures and presentations on key industry trends, for example, the "KI Group Summit" that attracted an audience of nearly 200 (see Plasteurope.com of 27.10.2017), organised by Plasteurope.com's parent company the KI Group (Bad Homburg / Germany; www.kiweb.de). There was also a daily Fakuma newsletter, "K-PROFI täglich", which was published by the KI Group for the first time and featured some of the event's highlights each day.
Fakuma will open its gates again next year from 16-20 October for the 26th time. The event in Friedrichshafen takes place every year there is not a "K" trade fair in Düsseldorf, which is held every three years. The first Fakuma took place in 1981 with 60 exhibitors and a floor space of 4,000 m².
